Posted by Mij 24/02/07 Well as the days whizz by its almost time for yer local river to open its waters to one an all as long as ye huv a permit;;;;so its also time to tie up some patterns for the season-from my own point of view these are few in number-spiders are a sure bet-small sizes an sparsely tied any an all colours to suit situation, even tie some with a bit of weight for early season an high waters;nymphs also worth a go pheasnts tails, sawyers, greygoose, blackprince, caddis types-again small sizes an again with weight for early season;as fur dry a think ye cannae beat klinkhammer for over the season an grey wulff an adams are killers too;;happy tying an good luck for the season.

Latest news from yer local river:its fishing well considering the damage done over the winter, praise must go to Paul Bisset an his bailiffs for the work that has been done to get the river fishable again a fair number of trees an debris had to be removed from the river itself to allow free flow of water an passage of migratory fish as well as a lot of trees being removed from the banks;as for the fishing there are plenty fish in the water all you have to do is catch them!-my trips have been rather limited but on thurs of last week i caught an returned twenty trout an a further sixteen on friday in two sessions totalling no more than four an a half hours the best of which was pushing two pounds, the black spiders in small sizes are doing the business for me ,shouldnt be long before there is good top of the warer activity given mayfly time is almost upon us a time not to missed on the river;as for hotspots the runs at headswood mill producing fish down the back of headswood house an all along denovan road to the poofspool, have also taken a lot of fish at the viaduct stretch-cant really comment on other areas as i have not managed to fish them;allistair also reports good returns into double figures he is favouring black pennel, kate mclaren, blae an black an cinammon sedge. There have also been claims of two sea trout being taken both around the three pound mark-so if you have not been its high time you did-mind an buy a ticket though as bailiffs are always about an you dont want chucked off or banned-an for all it costs ye get good value fur yer dough i think its aboot forty notes fur an adult an a tenner fur the wee dudes-fur that ye get yer season wi three stockings of broonies an the chance of sea troot an salmon-no bad methinks.

Havent managed down the river for some time but im led to believe its still there!i hope to put in a couple of hours this afternoon an hopefully boost my tally for the season-Allistair has managed to fish a bit more frequently than myself an informed me last night that his tally now stands at eighty for the season-a bit scary as hes never caught more than me oot the river before an im no keen to let it happen now-so it might just motivate to tread the bank a little more often in the coming weeks. On a more informative note theres a good chance that with some decent rainfall we might get some salmon starting to run the river-perhaps not in the numbers that you get at the backend but fish are regularly getting taken on the forth so the carron might start to produce soon provided we get the rain-an im not talking about the drizzly stuff of the last couple of days but a proper downpour or two;anyway heres the rub if your not out ther fishing you will not catch fish so give it a go i certainly intend to-perhaps ill see you on the bank.
