i`ve seen a few of these epoxy fry flies on sale in shops and thought about buyin a couple, but then thought, are they flies. tae me they look like a rapala with a fringe at the end and withoot the trebles.i know they are banned at some fisheries, and i can see why.is it fair tae call these flies?

dodgy ground here....i've seen fleas that are carved from plastic...moulded or cut from items such as cork....i'm unsure ....as for epoxies..*shrug* saw one post on another site about a comp where it was naturals only...one guy argued that a blob isn't a lure...it's an impression of a cloud of daphnia so is a natural......... me<<< i'll leave it to someone else to tell me whats a lure or alluring to fish really am stuck as to when a flee is a flee, not a lure,is a lure or crosses the line into the area of other fishing methods back to the question..is it fair?? up to the club and/or the water fished with a lil' bit of personal morality..i don't fish them...but then 10 year ago i didn't fish a lot of the modern patterns either

aye, interesting debate. I honestly dont know if they are worth buying. I will say, they certainly look pretty.
aye lgf, there is always contention about whats a lure and what isnt. The cormarant for example, some people say its a pin fry imitation, others say its a lure . . . . I dont know ?
I would say the blob is definitely a lure. I know they are sometimes fished static and there the daphnia argument stands up but they are normally stripped at breakneck speed so in that case is it the way the pattern is fished that decides if its an imitation or not ?

i'd have to say that they are a lure.....useable in everyday fishing but i would fling a restriction on comp fishing...i can see fisheries banning them but i can't really see them imitating movement....rather like using a pike plug without the lip

to add to my last post....in flytying naturals we try to copy using the materials we have to best imitate look/movement... if the materials improve...should we quit because we can do better imitations??
