Josh and I fished the Earn at Kinkell Bridge today for grayling and managed one each. The river is very high after all the rain but we had a good day and most of the fish caught were by trotting with maggots. Ok for £6 and the fishing hut has a cooker so we had a hot lunch. Weather was cold but dry. i35.photobucket.com/albums/d152/shanksi/IMAG0028.jpgPhoto shows view from Kinkell Bridge lookning downstream. shanksi

Nice picture and nice looking stretch of water shanksi. Were you fly fishing? What flys were you using?

We started the day trotting with maggots but unfortunately the reel I had been given a loan of jammed so I had to use Josh's Bloke XL50 9' fly rod. Both the fish we caught were on the maggot and I think only a couple of fish were caught on the fly. We were using pink shrimp, red tags and some grayling bugs Josh was given by Dave Downie. The beat is really good altho the water is very high just now, we were up at about the same time last year and I reckon the water is at least three feet higher. The link below is for the beat www.kinkellfishings.co.uk/We are hoping to go up next Saturday with the fly fishing forum but will wait to see what happens this week with the weather. Hope to go up in May or June for some brownies. shanksi

Trip to Kinkell Bridge called off tomorrow due to the river bursting it's banks. This weather is bloody awful. If the rain eases a bit hoping to go up next Saturday for the grayling.

Going up tomorrow to Kinkell Bridge with the Fly Fishing Forum guys for some grayling. Sandy has extended his season due to so many days being lost so hopefully will manage to catch. The river is holding at about 3 feet so could be ok. Will try both fly and trotting. Great to be getting out again and definitely worth £6 for the day. Will let you know how we get on. Josh is hoping to beat his FFF outing record of last year of catching an 8lb salmon. ;D shanksi

Tight lines and have a good one. Never heard of Dave, my ignorance is no excuse right enough, you will need to inform us on that one bud, has he a web site or is he a fly tying and fishing guru from the west of Scotland

Jock, link is to Dave's website www.flyfishingworld.co.uk/He holds the record for Menteith 17lb 13oz rainbow, you can see it in January's Trout Fisherman. He also holds the record for Leven. He's a really nice guy and always willing to help, like most people I've met fishing with the few exceptions. shanksi

No luck today. Some of the guys arived at 8.30 and the river was 4 feet and fishable but by the time we arrived at 9.45 it was 7 feet and unfishable. Had a good day tho as heard some great stories and got some good advice and spent an enjoyable time in the fishing hut. There's always next year for the grayling.
