All fears of a poor day due to the increasing heat and sun were very quickly dispelled with several offers to all of us within a few casts...
Jock,Bubble and myself fishing the west bank into the wind and Mij,Alistair and Craig starting on the East..(considerably more sheltered)
Jock.. fishing his naturals caught a broonie at about 1lb and 1/4 which he released unharmed then lulled into a quiet spell for a bit before landing the first fish between the three of us fishing into the wind whilst Jimmy and myself had our lines snapped many times and constant takes every few casts...
the strong gusting wind was playing havoc and i was struggling to get my line out any distance but after six fish hooked and lost whilst playing for the net..(count them six)...i eventually hooked and landed a rainbow at 4lb and 1/4 ...the day progressed from there in with fish taken all round the loch.....Craig finding luck on both the West and East banks as he braved the winds from time to time..i had found that cigs were the key to my landing one as after a decent cast i may get a take but if i casted...took a cig...lit it.(in the wind) and then had a couple of drags before bringing in on a slow retrieve then i landed a fish..(someday needs to time that)
the wind picked up constantly during the course of the day and we all struggled to find any headway but stalwartly removed to shift...i swapped pegs with jock after i bagged up and he took another 2 good fish before giving up and returning to his more sheltered peg...with disasterous results...he hooked himself with the point fly high on the cheek just below the left eye...
thanks goes to ian from stenhousemuir of www.iansflies.com who removed it cleanly
method used was with fly line...check herewww.bishfish.co.nz/articles/general/hookout.htm
flies used by myself and catching fish(but losing line or fly) were
yellow dancer (snapped) 6lb mono
orange blob (lost fy)
mini cats whisker(lost fly)
viva (snapped) 6lb mono
flies used by myself in fish landed
lime green fritz with marabou tail
tattie muncher.(red/green/black) 2
hot head damsel
myself for four fish...bag weight 12 pound and 1/4
Craig bagged up for over 10lb and Jock bagged.(brown trout released) for over 10lb but Jimmy never recovered from losing those early ones
i think Mij bagged on his half day ticket or 6 hour ticket...unsure...i was still on a high after bagging up...somebody will confirm i'm sure...and i don'y know how Alistair faired by the end
