Falkirk Muir was the scene for the second battle of Falkirk where Bonnie Prince Charlie defeated George II troops on the 17th January 1764. The English troops were lead by Lieutenant General Henry Hawley. After the defeat they retreated to Linlithgow palace and then burnt it down drying there clothes during the night after the battle. This path leads to or from Bantaskin or you can then walk up and across the road to the right and pick up the right of way to Slammanan.
