its about time a fish pass was implemented at this part of the carron so migratory fish can swim freely up and down the river.
also, i wish a fish ladder was installed into the carron dam, although the carron dam will not like this because they stock the carron valley reservoir with rainbows.
why don't carron dam stop stocking the reservoir with fish and build a fish ladder similar to the one at the river tummel's Pitlochry Dam?
its the fact that not enough investment has been put into the river that is stopping the river be what it could.
it seems the carron dam is the one spoiling the river.
also the river carron actually continues past the carron valley reservoir (if you look on google maps), so if salmon and sea trout could swim all the way through the reservoir and further up they would have a good run.
also, from carron valley's point of view, their fishery *could* be more prestigious if it had migratory fish in it, more so than their rainbow trout fishery currently is.
for the overwhelming benefit of the river carron, a fish pass at the fankerton weir and a fish ladder at the dam its self would transform the area, the river carron and the carron valley into a world class river for all species of fish, including migratory which would be on the same par as the river systems in perthshire.
but no, we can't have it, because nobody wants to make the investment.
i would of much fancied money pumped into getting the river carron system fully accessable to migratory fish again, than the waste of money spent on the regeneration of the forth and clyde canal.
